Year 5 Homework Expectations
Reading
It is important for every child to read at home as often as they can. As a minimum, we expect each child to read at home with an adult or sibling at least 3 times a week (15 minutes a time). Please write a comment in your child's Reading Record each time you read with them. We would also like the children to begin to write their own comments about what they have read in their Reading Records too. If your child wishes to access the school library to be able to choose their ‘read at home’ books, then they need to have read at home with an adult at least 20 times in a new term.
Times Tables
Each week your child will complete their Club 60/20 test. The results of these tests will be sent home at the end of each week, so the children can see how their scores are improving. Please regularly practice all times tables up to 12 x 12 with your child and also start to practice the related division calculations. E.g. If we know that 8 x 3 = 24 we also know that 24 ÷ 8 = 3.
Topic
Each half term the children will have a homework grid with 9 pieces of Topic homework to complete. Children are expected to complete a minimum of 6 tasks over the half term. We would like the children to bring one piece of homework in every Thursday.
