Year 2 Homework expectations

Reading

Year 2 children are expected to read at home for 15 minutes each day to ensure they make good progress. Please sign and comment in the reading records. Make sure these come to school every day. Children are given an opportunity to change their reading books, independently, on a daily basis when they have finished a book.

Spellings

Spellings will be sent home weekly for children to practice, these will go home on a Friday. We will not test the children on these but will look for them to be spelt correctly during writing pieces.

Please see the common exception word spelling list that the children should be able to spell by the end of Year 2.

Times Tables

Each week the children take part in a five minute timed, times table test (Club 60/20). These tests will be sent home each week so the children can see how their scores are improving. Each half term we will focus on a different table. Please support your children at home to learn the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

Topic Homework

Each half term the children will have a homework grid with 9 pieces of topic homework to complete. Children are expected to complete a minimum of 6 tasks over the half term. We look forward to seeing your lovely homework.
