We'd like to say a big thank you for all the amazing food and other donations parents and children made for Harvest Festival. All these donations have been sent to the Manna Society who have also expressed their thanks:
"Thank you for East Wickham Primary Academy’s Harvest Festival gifts to the Manna Centre. The food that we have received will be used throughout the next twelve months to help some of the poorest members of our society. On behalf of them I would like to say a genuine “Thank You”.
The Manna Day Centre provides both a compassionate and practical response to London’s poverty and homelessness problems. For some, it’s a place where they can come for their only hot meal of the day. For others, it’s a listening ear and a welcome respite from another day living on the streets. For others still, it’s a chance to get off the street and into accommodation.
The centre welcomes around 150 people every day, more than half of them homeless. We open 7 days a week and serve around 800 meals, 70 mugs of soup and countless cups of tea every week. We are only able to provide these services thanks to your Harvest Festival donation. As well as providing hot food and a place to rest during the day, the Centre also offers showers, clothing, access to medical care and advice on housing and welfare. Putting a roof over people’s heads is a key priority and in the last 12 months we have found accommodation for over 260 people.
The work we do here is a practical and compassionate response to poverty and homelessness. The majority of our funding and our foodstuffs come from the Christian community. Without the continuing generosity of our supporters we would be unable to continue our work. Please find attached a poster thanking all who donated Harvest Festival gifts.
Although our building is given to us rent-free from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Southwark, we are dependent on voluntary donations to raise approx. 85% of our annual £450,000 budget. Without your support we would be unable to offer the services we do. We are truly grateful to you for your support of our work. Any help you can give, financially or practically (food, men’s clothing, towels, tea mugs, etc.) throughout the year, will benefit some of the poorest members of our society."
